Probably The Worst Website I’ve Ever Seen…
There are some things you kinda expect to find when you visit a website. One of them is an easy-to-use menu so you can quickly find what you’re looking for.
Other things you want to find are maybe a phone number or a way to make an enquiry or an easy way to buy something.
After all, that’s what a website is for; to get the visitor to engage with you towards a purchase of some kind.
If you’re a plumber, you want people to call you to book a job. A florist wants people to place an online order, a restaurant wants you to book a table.
And those are the things you want to do as well. Either gain knowledge about something or enquire to buy – if you’re anything like me at least.
So when the site is slow to load, if you can’t find what you want in a click or two, you’re gone, never to return.
I’ve seen some absolutely dreadful websites, some that look like they were done by a 10-year old using paint, and worse.
But this one beat the lot.
No menu whatsoever. No visible phone number, no contact page to lodge an enquiry.
Instead, a transparent floating image against a very dark background. On the transparent image were four options: Trade login, trade pricelist download (which anyone could access), and the same for clients; login and pricelist.
Nothing about the company, where it was, who owned it, delivery expectations, guarantees, availability; nothing to excite me and make me want to do business.
And they came to us because the site isn’t making sales and they wanted advertising to help boost revenue.
That’s when you just have to tell it like it is and say, “not with this website!” Sigh.
