Website Strategy - Avoiding the Costly Mistakes Others Make

When you plan a website, there are four key questions you should first address. Without the answers they provide, the site won’t perform as you had hoped. It either gets no visitors (traffic) or the visitors it gets don't make contact with you. Either way, you lose.

Here are the four questions (known as "Yuille's Rules") you must ask:

1. Why do you want the website - what does it have to do for you?

  • It may be that you simply need a "Due Diligence" site that supports you as a viable supplier or service provider...
  • You may want it to act as a silent catalogue so your field or phone sales team can refer customers to relevant pages of photos or product specifications...
  • You may want it to generate qualified leads for your sales team...
  • You may want it to make the sale for you...
  • You may want your customers or staff to log in to review certain information...

2. Who do you want to have visit?

  • Do you want prospects to visit your site to find out about your product / service?
  • Or do you want your existing customers to visit, and why?
  • Maybe it's a portal where you just want bulk traffic to satisfy advertisers...

3. How are they going to find it?

Today, sites are found by entering a search term into a search engine. Everybody wants to be on the front page of Google, but aren't quite sure what they want to be there for. So you need to know what search terms you want to be found under. And you need to know exactly what your customer is entering into the search engine to find you. We can help there, too, by conducting keyword research so we present your story to them in the words and terms they want to read.

Unless you have a highly visible offline profile, it's unlikely they will directly enter your business name or your URL. So, remembering that every competitor you have wants to be on the front page as well... you have to consider SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and its implications.

4. What do you want them to do once they're there?

  • Do you want them to buy something?
  • Do you want them to sign up for a newsletter, download more information, or an application form?
  • Do you want them to fill out a Contact form?

It comes down to having an exact understanding of the outcome you want from the site.

This is where we come in. When you realise that search engines play a vital part in your online success; when you realise that simply having people visit your site and leave without you knowing who they are isn't good enough; and when you realise that your website is a vital component of your marketing success you can rely on us to combine these elements with the answers to Yuille’s Rules and create a successful website for you.

Creating a successful website is a science.

When you consult with us about a new website, you will be genuinely surprised about the process we follow. Yes, we're concerned about your colour scheme and your logo, but there's more to it than that.

We're going to take the time to accurately identify your priorities and then to create the site to meet them. Again, we work to your desired outcomes.

Then we're going to discuss how people will find your website and exactly what you want them to do when they get there. We'll discuss Best Practice - the essential "do's and don'ts" that make your website user friendly and easy to navigate.

We won't waste your time with boring techie stuff like storage space, bandwidth, control panels, scripts and complex hosting packages. That's left to our technical staff - their role is to provide what's necessary for your site to work. Yes, we provide hosting but you won't find links for hosting packages on this site. That's not what we're about.
