It’s virtually impossible to inform or persuade anyone about anything without the use of words. Words stir emotions, recall sounds and paint pictures. They can intimidate us, make us laugh or make us cry. When badly used, you don’t even read them, well used, they inspire us to buy.

What pictures, emotions and sounds do the words you use when talking or writing about your business evoke? They should be establishing trust, promoting you as a viable supplier, the best solution to the problem you solve, and encouraging customers to call you. It’s important they encourage calls from those you can sell to as anything less leaves money on the table for someone else to pick up.

Copywriting is a skill few possess. Time after time people struggle with words both verbally and in writing. And yet without the right words, the message is lost or misinterpreted.

Words make the difference between making or losing the sale.

David Ogilvy generated an immediate aura of prestige when he introduced Rolls Royce to the US market with these simple words: “At 60mph, all you can hear is the ticking of the clock”. (Rumour has it that when the MD of Rolls Royce saw the advert, he ordered the clock be replaced with a quieter one!)

Thousands of people enrolled for piano lessons as the result of this headline by John Caples, “They laughed when I sat down at the piano, but when I began to play!”

In the same vein, you could describe a pen as a cylindrical metal shaft containing a cartridge of blue ink, or as a finely balanced, delicately crafted instrument designed to facilitate the joyful and continual flow of words onto paper.

You may need words for a brochure, an advert, a press release, a company profile or for a website. Whatever you need the words for, whatever the message, you don’t have to write it. And if you do want something you’re written proof read (and not just spellchecked) and edited, just ask us.
